October
Event type: Project
Τοποθεσία: Laguna Beach, CA , United States
Επικοινωνία: Chris Hart, hartdivers@gmail.com
Event website: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OrangeCountyUnderwaterExplorers/
Ημερομηνία: October 1, 2025 to October 31, 2026
Description: The Orange County Underwater Explorers (OCUE) are launching a Project Baseline effort beginning at Shaw’s Cove in Laguna Beach, California. This project will establish a one-year ecological baseline of local marine life and conditions, with the long-term goal of expanding to neighboring coves along the Laguna coast.
Divers will document broad flora and fauna using underwater photography, videography, and written observations. Supporting abiotic data—including visibility, temperature, and tide state—will be recorded during each dive.
A dedicated mapping team will use GPS buoys and acoustic pingers to chart key waypoints and create a diver-friendly navigation map of the site.
All data will be compiled in a central repository for long-term comparison.
Results will be shared through the GUE Project Portal, highlighted in Quest Magazine, and prepared for peer-reviewed publication. The dataset will also be structured to contribute to global repositories such as GBIF and OBIS.
This is a community science initiative designed to involve local divers, strengthen connections with conservation groups and universities, and provide actionable insights into the health of Laguna’s nearshore ecosystems.
Certification requirement: No requirement or Rec 1

Ημερομηνία: April 30, 2026 to May 3, 2026
Description: Spring is the period of the best visibility in the Baltic Sea. It is worth taking advantage of this during the May Labour Weekend. Join us and dive on the wrecks of the Baltic Sea! What’s in the menu? We are planning 4 diving days. The wrecks that we can visit are located at depths from 0 to 60m. Our primary port of departure will be Łeba. The final plan depends on weather conditions. We have some alternatives in case of bad weather.
In addition to the pure joy of wreck diving, we also want to collect some new documentation of the wrecks we will visit. By doing so we contribute to the database of scarce videos and pictures representing these historical wrecks.
If you take photos, record videos or are interested in underwater photogrammetry, we will have interesting challenges for you.
Certification requirement: Tech 1 or Tech 2 or CCR 1 or CCR 2 or RB80

Ημερομηνία: July 18, 2026 to July 25, 2026
Description: In 2021 and 2022, GUE Sweden conducted a survey of ghost nets in the marine reserve Skånska Kattegatt. The final report concluded that ghost nets should be retrieved from eleven wrecks and that the situation on the remaining wrecks in the area should be mapped and documented.
The purpose of this project is to reduce the amount of marine litter and minimize the risk of ghost catches of porpoises, fish, seabirds and other marine life by salvaging ghost nets in Skånska Kattegatt.
We plan for five weeks in 2026. For 2026, we plan three weeks with a maximum depth of 30 metres so all diving will be performed on Nitrox and two weeks at about 40 meters and will be looking for CCR-divers for that part of the cleaning.
Please note that the area is very exposed and therefore sensitive to changing weather conditions. There is also a strong surface current frequently present and we have therefore a requirement of GUE DPV1 for all participants.
In connection with the start of the separate weeks, retrieval training will be offered for all divers.

Ημερομηνία: August 15, 2026 to August 22, 2026
- 18-25 July on nitrox depths, ie max 30 metres
- 25 July to 1 August, on nitrox depths, ie max 30 metres
- 1-8 August, on nitrox depths, ie max 30 metres
- 8-15 August on trimix depths, around 40 metres, on CCR
- 15-22 August on trimix depths, around 40 metres, on CCR
Please note that the area is very exposed and therefore sensitive to changing weather conditions. There is also a strong surface current frequently present and we have therefore a requirement of GUE DPV1 for all participants.
In connection with the start of the separate weeks, retrieval training will be offered for all divers.

Description: The Summer Isles Sub-tidal Survey Project will bring together divers from GUE and Project Baseline, scientists from the University of Chester, and local community members from the Blue Hope Alliance, to explore and document the Summer Isles Marine Protected Area.
Over the week long project the team will document sites yet to be surveyed by the Blue Hope Alliance, focussing on sites beyond recreational diving depths.
The data, and subsequent analysis, will be used to inform marine planning and wider conservation efforts in the area. The dive team will be supplemented by ROV technology and will also conduct outreach events during the week.
