2027 GUE NextGen Applications are Open
Applications for the 2027 GUE NextGen Scholarship Are Now Open!
The GUE NextGen Legacy Program (NGLP) is Global Underwater Explorers’ umbrella system for developing future leaders in exploration, diving, and the agency itself. The NextGen Scholarship (and associated Traineeships) is one branch of the program that provides training-focused grants and accelerated support for aspiring individuals who want to learn and create impact. From April 1st, applications for the 2027 GUE NextGen Scholarship are now OPEN, promising a transformative opportunity designed to empower the next generation of divers.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The NextGen Scholarship is open to divers aged 21 to 30, provides tuition-free GUE training for one year, a generous travel budget, and a brand-new set of diving gear from Halcyon. With these resources, the recipient can fuel their passion for exploration and conservation by undertaking GUE training in their preferred locations and environments. In return, the NextGen Scholar will share their journey through written and video documentation.
TRAINEESHIPS
Upon review of each NextGen Scholarship's application cycle, a selection of the year's deserving runners-up will also receive personalized support from GUE, subject to discretion. These individuals will form the 2027 Class of NextGen Trainees. Past sponsorships are individual, but have included: participation in scientific cave projects, GUE training from Performance Diver to Tech 1, GUE Creator contracts, and participation in other NGLP branches such as the Young Diver Program, collaborations with the FSDA in their Polar Scientific Diving Course, and BlueGreen expeditions (Arctic video from past Trainees Abby and Gaute).

and now GUE Instructor, Jenn Thomson
COLLABORATIONS
We are proud to involve past and current Scholars and Trainees in expeditions and collaborations as they arise. Subject to availability and prerequisite experiences, our NextGen Scholar will have an opportunity to partake in a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to the Arctic or Antarctica with BlueGreen Expeditions. Here, they can take advantage of all the citizen science programs onboard, work with renowned videographers and photographers, and dive in some of the most unique places on earth.
The ideal candidate is a diver who has a great thesis idea and specific project direction, but lacks the funds, training, experience, and mentorship to make it happen. Note that the application is not limited to scientific disciplines; legal, engineering, journalism, and creative-focused divers are encouraged to apply.
