Wakulla Springs Hydrologic Observatory

Wakulla Springs Hydrologic Observatory

Better Decisions through Better Understanding!

That is the overall goal of the Wakulla Springs Hydrologic Observatory (WSHO).

One important step in achieving that goal is to foster better communication and sharing between the many governmental and non-governmental organizations working on hyrdologic problems in the Woodville Karst Plain (WKP).

The WSHO - Data Portal has been developed as a first step in increasing the access to and therefore the utility of all hydrologic data that is being collected and managed in the WKP. At present, the Data Portal provides access to a database for the hydraulic data being collected and managed by the Woodville Karst Plain Research Group, and provides a listing and description of all other currently available data streams that are relevant to the WKP. In the latter case, it also provides a link to the managing agency's website where the data can be viewed or downloaded. Our goal is to provide direct access to the data through this Portal such that all data can be directly queried, viewed graphically in comparison to other data streams, and downloaded directly from this site. In providing this service, it is our goal to foster more effective communication and collaborations between all of the managing organizations; and foster a better understanding of the critical land-use / water quality relationships that must be effectively managed if Wakulla Spring is to be protected for future generations.

The Portal database has been built using MySQL, and is served using PHP coded pages running through an Apache web server. Ultimately, the Data Portal will continue to grow as more data stations are installed and incorporated into the system.
