GUE Sponsored Florida Springs Rally
- Stop talking and do something!
About 250 people turned out for the Florida Springs Rally in Tallahassee on February 16 to demand lawmakers do more to protect the fragile resource. In the last five years, legislation intended to stop further harm to the state's more than 700 springs has failed. GUE staff and representatives were on site to sponsor and support this important event.

GUE Egypt and the Hebat Allah: Preserving Egypt's Artificial Reefs
As a part of a cooperation between GUE and HEPCA (Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association), resident GUE divers in Hurghada (Red Sea, Egypt) are helping install and maintain the moorings on the local wreck – the Hebat Allah. The 51-meter wreck of a coastal freighter, the Hebat Allah was sunk in 2004 and opened as an official dive site in December 2005. It is the first and only artificial reef dive site created in the Red Sea and also a unique marine research opportunity for monitoring the coral reef growth.

GUE's 2009 Conference - A summary
Since 2005, GUE has held an annual conference. On November 13th, 2009, GUE held its fifth annual conference designed to promote the exchange of ideas with respect to aquatic education, exploration, and conservation. Attendees from 17 different countries traveled to Gainesville, Florida, USA to attend this year's festivities. Conference speakers traveled from across the world to share their philosophy, ideas, projects, and programs to a passionate audience. The quality and the variety of the lectures were outstanding.
